Day 4!

Happy Fourth of July!!

Today's topic: Your parents

Vivian Tarcza, my mom, was born in Massachusetts, but her father was in the Air Force so they moved around a lot, eventually settling in upstate New York, because that’s where the grandparents were.

Emery Dickenson Bigelow II, my dad, was born in New York and lived in the Utica, NY area, Boston, Germany…but ended up back in upstate New York.

They met in 1979 in Utica.  My mom was dating the owner of a bookstore my dad used to work at. My dad was working for GE and he was moving from Ft. Lewis, WA to Weisbaden Air Base in Germany when he stopped into the store for a visit… The owner introduced them on the phone.  “And the rest is history…”

They were married in Upstate New York on June 18th 1983.  They moved down to Alexandria, VA and that’s where I was born.  Eight months later my dad was transferred to MCI’s Richardson office and we moved to Texas.  While they don’t necessarily super-love Texas, there’s less snow than upstate New York so that’s pretty nice and a good reason to stay.

My dad works for Fossil, Inc (yes, the watch company) as a network engineer.  He enjoys reading books about history, cooking and trying new recipes, watching interesting TV shows, Netflix and listening to Celtic music.

My mom works for Planned Parenthood as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner.  She enjoys reading books of all kinds, watching Judge Judy, spending time with her friends and wishing for a grand-baby.

Together my parents enjoy travelling – They’ve been to France, last year they went to Italy and did a bus tour and this year they have plans to go to Greece!

I asked for a more recent picture, but no dice! =)

So, since I'm writing about my parents I thought I might take the chance to say thanks!

Mom & Dad -

Thank you for all of your love and support throughout my life.  I'm really lucky to have grown up with parents who were always so supportive of my hopes and dreams and encouraged me to take advantage of every opportunity! I love you both very much!

Love,
Brit

And do you watch The Office? I can't think of Utica without thinking of Michael and Dwight "We will burn Utica to the ground!!"
